Brooke County is named for Robert Brooke, who was a Governor of Virginia.

Location:  632 Main Street / 7th Street

Built:  1849 – 1850

Style:  Greek Revival

Architect:  J W Kerr of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Contractor:   Unknown

 

Description:  The building faces west and is a two story red colored brick and wood  structure. The west front has a porch supported by four white columns rising to a balcony. The gabled roof is sloped with an octagonal white cupola in the center. On the south side is the red colored brick and stone annex built in 1977. The architect was Ray A Shaw and the contractor was H W Trushel Construction Company.

 

Note:  The first courthouse was built by Samuel Herdman in 1799.
