Galax is named for the Galax urceolata an evergreen groundcover plant found throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Description:  The building faces west and is a two story red colored brick and concrete structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the center of Galax. The west front has a projecting center section with a high portico with four red colored brick pillars. On the north and south sides of the front section are one story porches with entrances. The roof if hipped.

 

History:  Before Galax became an independent city, it was part of Carroll County and Grayson County.
