Fort St. James is named after the fort built as the New Caledonia fur district administrative centre by the Hudson’s Bay Company.

Description:  The building faces west and is a one story wood frame structure. The building is located on spacious grounds to the northwest of the centre of Fort St. James. The Provincial Court occupies the west side of the building with the Forestry Department on the east side. At the west end is the entrance. The windows are horizontal. The roof is hipped. The building contains a courtroom for the Provincial Court.

Description:  The building faces north and is a two story wood frame structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds at the top of a hill to the north of the centre of Fort St. James. The entrance is along the north side with a porch. A high wing extends south. The roof is hipped. The building is now an art gallery. 

 

Note:  The building started out as a store for the Hudson Bay Company, and was eventually moved to its current site where it was used as a residence, a Mormon church, then a courthouse.
